Getting Started

Installation

Windows

  1. Download BlackBook-Setup-2026.01.07.exe
  2. Run the installer
  3. Choose installation options:
    • Create desktop shortcut (recommended)
    • Start with Windows (optional)
  4. Click Install and wait for completion
  5. BlackBook will launch automatically

macOS

Coming soon - Mac version is in development.

First Run Setup

When you first launch BlackBook, the Setup Wizard will guide you through configuration:

Choose SQLite (simple) or PostgreSQL (advanced)

Confirm settings and start using BlackBook

System Tray

BlackBook runs in your system tray (Windows) or menu bar (Mac). Right-click the icon to:

  • Open BlackBook - Open the app in your browser
  • Start with System - Toggle auto-start on login
  • Check for Updates - Check for new versions
  • Quit - Close BlackBook

Data Location

By default, BlackBook stores your data in:

# Windows

C:\Users\YourName\Documents\BlackBook\

# Mac

/Users/YourName/Documents/BlackBook/

This folder contains:

  • config.yaml - Your configuration
  • blackbook.db - SQLite database (if using SQLite)
  • backups/ - Automatic backups
  • logs/ - Application logs
